Federal Government

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) was established by the US Federal Government in 1970 to clean-up environmental damage in the country and to continually ensure a safe and healthy environment for citizens.  The EPA oversees research and monitoring, develops and enforces regulations, provides financial assistance to states, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations, promotes environmental education, and publishes information.

To find out about national environmental laws and regulations, visit the US EPA’s Laws and Regulations page.

State

Each state has its own guidelines and procedures for the collection, marketing, and education of recycling.  Go to the US EPA website to find information on waste reduction, resource conservation and reduction, management and disposal of solid and hazardous waste.
