HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW)

City of Knoxville and Knox County residents may dispose of household hazardous waste by taking it to the city's Solid Waste Facility, 1033 Elm Street.


The HHW Collection Center will be open Mondays starting on July 6.

Hours:
Sun: Closed
Mon - Tue - Thur - Fri: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Wed: 7:00 am - 12 Noon
Sat: 8:00 am - 12 Noon
(*Amnesty Sat. until 1:00 pm)

Residents may take up to 20 gallons (20 one gallon cans or 4 five gallon buckets) or 100 pounds per visit.

The city facility accepts:

  • Adhesives

  • Air Conditioners (small window units)

  • Automotive Oil and Fuel (10 gal. limit per day)

  • Additives

  • Antifreeze

  • Bleach

  • Brake fluid

  • Car wax and cleaners

  • Carburetor and Fuel Injection Cleaners

  • Caulk

  • Computer systems (limit 2 per resident/quarter)

  • Cooking grease

  • Detergent

  • Drain openers

  • Flea collars

  • Fluorescent tubes & compact fluorescent light bulbs

  •  Fungicides/Wood Preservatives

  • Gasoline

  • Grease and Rust Solvents

  • Herbicides

  • Household batteries (rehcargeable and hazardous. No Alkline) 

  • Household cleaners

  • Insect repellant

  • Insecticide

  • Lead-acid batteries

  • Lighter fluid

  • Mercury Thermometers

  • Mothballs

  • Oven cleaner

  • Paint  (20 gal. limit per day per container size)

  • Paint stripper and removers

  • Paint thinner

  • Pesticides

  • Pet spray and dip

  • Pool chemicals

  • Propane Cylinders

  • Rat and mouse poison

  • Shoe polish

  • Spot remover

  • Stain

  • Starter Fluids

  • Toilet bowel cleaner

  • Transmission fluid

  • Tub and tile cleaner

  • TVs (limit 2 per resident/quarter)

  • Varnish

  • Weed killer

  • Windshield wiper fluid

  • Wood and Metal Cleaners and Polishers

Reduce Through Re-Use
Materials that are in good condition and useable will be set aside at the Collection Center can be picked up by residents free of charge.
