Hickman County Solid Waste Program
The Tennessee Solid Waste Management Act of 1991 mandated sweeping changes in the way all counties in Tennessee, including Hickman County, manages their solid waste activities. This Act was in response to new, more stringent environmental legislation enacted by Congress in an effort to further keep our environment clean and safe. The plan developed for Hickman County as adopted by the Hickman County Commission in 1995, and its components are overseen by a Committee appointed by the County Commission, through the Solid Waste Director. Trash may be disposed of at either of four permanent Convenience Centers or at a stop of the Roving Convenience Center. Recyclable materials are also collected at these sites.
Hickman County’s residential Solid Waste Disposal is funded through a $90.00 user fee paid annually by each home owner. Industries & commercial operations are billed by volumes of refuse produced. Demolition Landfill charges are accessed at a per ton rate determined by scale weight at the landfill site. Hickman County Solid Waste Management also provides Convenience Center Sites within Hickman County.
Hickman County Litter PreventionLast year Hickman County collected and recycled 400,000 pounds of litter from over 1200 miles of county and state roads. Hickman County Litter Program also cleaned up 514 dump sites. Report littering from vehicles at 1-877-8Litter. |
