Fentress County Solid Waste Progam
We are the Solid Waste Management for Fentress County, serving the entire county with household garbage disposal recycling and education outreach. Our goal is to reduce the tons going to the landfill and increase recycling tons.
Recycling Program Information
Fentress County built a new MRF facility in 2006 and we take all types of recyclables including waste tires, batteries, used oil, scrap metal, paper--including news, magazines, white office paper , junk mail, etc.
All eight convenience centers are set up for drop off recyclables. We provide drop off containers at three retail stores. Our recycling crew provides door-to-door pickups Monday - Friday for businesses all at no cost. This program has been in effect for more than twelve years and it just keeps getting better.
Litter EducationLitter collection is ongoing with two Solid Waste employees and inmates from the Sheriff’s Department. On a monthly basis we collect three to four tons of litter off our roadways. We visit schools, clubs, businesses, government offices and local citizens with information on litter prevention and recycling. One Litter Officer writes citations for anyone caught littering. This requires court cost, and community service work. Also, a lot of work goes into educating the public on reduction, recycling and anti-litter campaigns. Anyone may call the Solid Waste Office and leave a message if they see someone littering. The new Litter Law makes it easier to charge someone with littering based on the amount, which is a good thing. |
