Chester County
About Us
Chester County has 5 Convenience Centers. Our Recycling Center is located at 315 Talley Store Road where recyclable materials are accepted. Each Convenience Center is also a drop off point for recyclable materials. We are currently working on a program with our school systems to get them started recycling. We continue to promote and encourage people in Chester County to work together and help keep Chester County clean.
Chester County Solid Waste and Freed Hardamen University has scheduled our Great American Cleanup day for April 2, 2011. Please contact Amber Greene at 731-989-9855 or Russell Epperson at 731-989-6000 if interesting in volunteering.

Recycling Program Details
Chester County accepts paint, clothes, aluminum cans, cardboard, newspaper, pallets, tires, metal, electronic waste, batteries, oil, and plastic at all 5 convenience centers.
In 2009, we recycled 445 tons of card board with the help of local businesses. The CCSWD picks up cardboard in trailers around the county at local business and then brings it back to the solid waste recycling center to be sorted and recycled. The first cardboard bailer was purchased in 2006 and since then there has been 1,153 tons of cardboard recycled by Chester County Solid Waste Department.
Since 2008, our Senior Center has been recycling old cell phones and cell phone accessories. All the money received goes to the senior center program.
In 2009, 244 tons of newspaper was collected from offices, schools, and business to recycle. For the year 2009, 1137 tons of recyclable material was recycled with the help of the county.
Chester County Solid Waste and Recycling has started a paper recycling program in our school systems, offices, and business. If interested in starting a paper recycling program in your office or business please call our office for more information.

Litter Prevention
The Litter Grant allows Chester County Solid Waste to provide litter and recycling education to residents. Funds also support events for litter education and recycling promotion. Chester County plans to set up a recycling booth to increase public awareness about recycling at our local Barbeque Festival and Relay for Life Race. Free gifts and recycling brochures will be available at the booths. The booths will be sponsored by the Chester County Solid Waste Department and the T.D.O.T Litter Grant. For the last 4 years, Jerry White presented an Environmental Magic Show to our elementary schools. His program is an effective way to demonstrate that young children can learn about recycling. The magic show features ideas about recycling paper and using rechargeable batteries rather than disposable batteries. Stickers and coloring books are distributed to help promote litter education in schools. This program is sponsored by the Chester County Solid Waste Department and the T.D.O.T Litter Grant. The Litter Grant helped keep 32 tons of litter off the side of the road in 2009, by giving us the resources to provide garbage bags and vest for roadside pickup. If you see someone littering, call the toll-free hotline at 1-877-8-LITTER (877-854-8837). |
